A widespread and intense precipitation event has been in progress since last weekend with repeated episodes of heavy rain over parts of the Southeast U.S., and Tennessee and Ohio River Valleys.
Pockets of rainfall near, or in excess of, 6 inches are indicated over portions of Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky (red-shaded spots below). Widespread rainfall in excess of 2.5 inches fell over the entire region.
As of midday Wednesday, there were 106 locations reporting minor flooding, 20 moderate, and 5 major.
