While much of Mississippi, Alabama, northern Georgia, and the western Carolinias received a welcome, soaking, and recharging rainfall that exceeded an inch — other locations received much less. Areas in the most extensive drought only received 1/4 to 1/2 inch of rainfall. On the other hand, rainfall was enhanced over higher elevations of North Carolina where amounts exceeded 5 inches.

Following is a summary from the rain event over the past several days. Note the areas in yellow which received 2.5 inches or more and smaller pockets of red where 6 inches or more rain fell.

Upper reaches of the Chattahoochee and Savannah Rivers did receive significant rainfall which will result in enhanced inflows into these systems. Here are estimates of rainfall above Lake Lanier. Coverage was somewhat spotty, with far upper reaches receiving an inch or two, but other spots receiving only 1/2 inch or so. Overall, the entire basin above Lake Lanier averaged around an inch.<
